visual studio - Common Lisp IDE for C# Developer? -
update
i've decided go clojure now.
lispdev isn't ready, , eclipse/cusp wasn't stable enough me feel comfortable.
as clojure, after long, frustrating, annoying process trying eclipse/ccw, netbeans/enclojure , intellij/la clojure working, finally got eclipse/ccw working. rest still in mostly-broken states.
(if around it, i'll document took me eclipse/ccw working.)
so now, i'm going use that. may dip cl, , check out lispworks , allegrolisp's free versions, clojure feels more natural step me working within microsoft clr environment.
thanks help.
original question
i'm c# developer familiar visual studio (with resharper).
i'm new lisps. i've taken interest in both common lisp , clojure recently, , found plenty of material on both of them.
i've tried emacs + slime, feels backwards, dated solution. have no doubts power, it's usability nothing i'm used to. don't want struggle ide in addition language.
there eclipse plugins both clojure , cl. there's couple more options i've seen clojure. since i'm not java dev, know nothing these ides.
is eclipse place start? there other options?
edit:
here's features i'm used to:
- syntax highlighting , autoindentation (everyone has this, it's moot point)
- autocomplete of functions , variable names
- realtime displays of function overloads , parameters , ability arrow up/down through list while typing in parameters
- syntax suggestions code improvement, ability them ("use const", "convert linq expression (fp)", "variable never assigned to", "variable never used", "variable null", "function never used", etc.)
- extract method/function refactoring: select block of text, , can extracted new function
- create variable refactoring: select block of text , create variable (e.g., let)
- rename refactoring: rename function or variable declaration , other functions using updated (automated search/replace)
- go definition of method/function, variable
- find usages/references particular method/function, variable
- integrated folder-based project management tools , build tools
- "move class new file" creates new file based on class name, , containing of methods
- "rename file based on class type" renames file if change class name
- f9/click left of line add/remove breakpoints
- f10/f11 step or on code when debugging, along arrow , highlighting show code executing (step func execution, or execute here)
most available in right-click context menu, or hovering combobox or textbox you're typing.
i'm not saying emacs/slime can't that, if does, doesn't use similar in terms of usability techniques.
if you're used visual studio , want similar product lisp, equivalent going similar commercial ide. big ones know of allegro , lispworks.
i've not used either 1 real work (i.e., big project), though i've tried demos. seemed nice enough, if bit complex , weird uis, not better slime worth money me. if want vs, may you're looking for.
fwiw, both c# , common lisp in emacs, , find slime 10 times better set of modes i've found editing c# far. come think of it, don't know of development environment language or platform i'd rather use -- it's good.
one issue may have lisp different enough language you're used old ways of doing things no longer apply, any ide may seem "backwards" you. (i learned lisp long before c#, , c# seems backwards , dated me!) instead of learning few slime commands (there's not many need), you're learning ide commands, might not easier you, since concepts same , don't map vs-like ide features.
but luck whatever choose!
