content management system - Using Orchard for a LOB Application? -
has implemented orchard lob application? if so, experience? recommend using or cms or think it’s wrong way go?
to experience, developing custom lob application around orchard may or bad idea. depends trying achieve , importantly potential features/functionalities want leverage orchard framework.
personally speaking, fell in love orchard modularized architecture , simplicity of backend design. wanted have these features in application , decided write application entirely on orchard.
so, if want make same decisions made, should possibly warn followings:
1 - have got understand mvc internals pretty since orchard has huge amount of code written in arena. if not of expert in mvc, find spending lot of time figuring things out should.
2- depending type of application want develop, getting rid of of built-in modules may necessary, of core modules may lead problems hard fix.
3 - amount of customizations make, future release orchard possibly break code - , may find maintaining own application framework , being unable apply bug fixes , such. , mind you, orchard new framework, expect bunch of bug fixes, releases soon.
plus other possible ramifications, important weigh pro , cons here before make final decision.
so, advice follows:
if think can use orchard without heavily customizing internals, surely benefits lot. on other hand, if project specifications going need make huge changes framework, wouldn't advice pursue option.
in short, big project - don't use orchard.
unfortunately, not aware of other framework written orchard recommend here.
hope helps!
